IPA AND IKON TO AWARD

PACE SCHOLARSHIP IN 2008

 

Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam

IPA and IKON proudly announce that they will award the second annual PACE Scholarship in 2008.  Applications for the IPA-IKON PACE Scholarship are currently being accepted.  One scholarship will be awarded.  The criteria for this scholarship are:

  1. Candidates must be a voting member of IPA.

  2. Candidates must be PACE-eligible in meeting education and experience requirements at the time of application.

  3. Candidates must have exhausted other possibilities for funding costs associated with sitting for PACE, without incurring debt, including employer support, prior to making application for this scholarship.

  4. Candidates will be required to submit a written application.

  5. The scholarship recipient will have one (1) year, or up to and including July 1, 2009, to utilize this scholarship.

  6. Failure to utilize this scholarship on or before July 1, 2009, will forfeit all rights to this scholarship.

  7. All scholarship funds will be paid directly to NFPA with no scholarship proceeds paid directly to the scholarship recipient, except for reimbursement.

  8. Scholarship proceeds for 2008 may be used to pay for the PACE Study Manual, the PACE Candidate’s Handbook and Application, the PACE examination fee, the PACE online mock examination and the NFPA AIPS Online Review Course.

  9. All scholarship proceeds not used by the scholarship recipient between June 30, 2008 and July 1, 2009, will be available for reallocation to another IPA-IKON PACE Scholarship candidate.

  10. Considerations in the selection process include:

  • candidate’s goals and desires for taking/passing PACE;

  • inability to obtain financial support for costs associated with sitting for PACE;

  • participation in paralegal associations;

  • participation in community activities, volunteerism, etc.; 

  • activities which promote the vocation of paralegals and paralegal education.

IPA-IKON PACE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

 

The Board of Directors of the Indiana Paralegal Association and IKON will present a PACE Scholarship to a PACE Candidate who meets the required criteria.  One scholarship will be awarded.  The 2008 IPA-IKON PACE Scholarship will be awarded on June 18, 2008, at the June IPA Monthly Meeting.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  Candidates must be a voting member of IPA and must be PACE-eligible in meeting education and experience requirements at the time of application.  Candidates must have exhausted other possibilities for funding costs associated with sitting for PACE, without incurring debt, including employer support, prior to making application for this scholarship. 

 

APPLICATIONS:  All candidates will be required to complete a Scholarship Application.  Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2008.

 

FACTORS TO BE EXAMINED:  Inability to obtain financial support for costs associated with sitting for PACE without incurring debt; participation in paralegal associations, participation in community service, volunteerism, and activities that promote the vocation of paralegals and paralegal education.  Letters of reference will also be considered.

 

SELECTION PROCESS:  One candidate will be selected annually based on a majority vote of the PACE Selection Committee appointed by the President of the Indiana Paralegal Association.

  2. Describe how the candidate meets the education and experience requirements necessary to sit for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam [PACE].

  3. Describe why the candidate desires to sit for PACE.

  4. Describe what the candidate intends to do in preparation for sitting for PACE.

  5. Describe how the candidate will benefit from successful completion of PACE.

  6. Describe the candidate’s efforts to obtain financial support for costs associated with sitting for PACE from the candidate’s employer.

  7. If the candidate is selected to receive this scholarship, when would the candidate plan on using the scholarship.  [Note:  The candidate has one (1) year from the date of acceptance of this scholarship to use the scholarship.]

  8. Describe the candidate’s participation in paralegal associations, including IPA.

  9. Describe the candidate’s participation in community service and volunteerism.

  10. Describe the candidate’s activities that promote the vocation of paralegals and paralegal education.

  11. If the candidate is successful in passing PACE, how does the candidate intend to use credentialing to promote the vocation of paralegals and paralegal education. 

  12. Give any additional information the candidate would like the PACE Selection Committee to consider.  Please feel free to use additional pages or send other documentation to support the candidate’s application.
