COBURN PLACE

The Indiana Paralegal Association is working with Coburn Place this year as its charitable partner. Founded in 1996, Coburn Place is a transitional housing program focusing on the need for safe, long term housing options for domestic violence survivors with a mission to empower those impacted by interpersonal abuse. The Indiana Paralegal Association joins Coburn Place in its vision that one day stable housing, adequate financial resources, and a life free from abuse is a reality for every adult and child. The last year has resulted in uncommon challenges for Coburn Place. The Covid-19 pandemic added new stressors to many families as businesses and schools closed and parents struggled with online learning requirements while often balancing employment or efforts to find employment. The Indianapolis Star, in an August 20, 2020 publication, reported a spike in domestic violence due to the pandemic, forcing many victims to self-isolate at home. The staff and volunteers of Coburn Place have worked diligently to meet community needs; however, volunteerism has also declined due to concerns of community spread of the virus. The Indiana Paralegal Association looks forward to working with Coburn Place to assist in meeting the needs of domestic violence survivors during an unprecedented time. A specialized wish list of much-needed items has been created for the Indiana Paralegal Association and can be found on Amazon. Coburn Place requests any purchases include “Indiana Paralegal Association” in the gift receipt. Residents of Coburn Place take all items with them as they move from transitional housing to more permanent housing in a form of continued support to survivors. Financial donations can also be made at https:// coburnplace.org/donate/ on either a one-time or monthly basis. A donation of $15.00 provides one night of safe haven for an adult and two children with $450.00 providing a month of safe haven. Coburn Place also accepts many gently used items which are listed at https://coburnplace.org/donate/ donate-goods/. The charitable partnership runs through June 30, 2021 so please be sure to follow Coburn Place on social media and be on the lookout for additional ways you can assist the Indiana Paralegal Association in this partnership.
